Security & Content Safety
Security at aLphabet is designed in layers with one primary goal: to protect students and empower learning in a safe digital environment.
A Layered Defense Strategy
Our security isn't a single product, but a multi-layered approach to protect our network from edge to endpoint.
Network Segmentation
Different user groups (students, staff, guests) are logically separated to prevent unauthorized cross-traffic.
Firewall Enforcement
Strict access control rules ensure that traffic is only allowed where it's explicitly needed for educational purposes.
Content Safety Filtering
Advanced filtering is aligned to student levels, blocking harmful content while allowing academic resources.
Monitoring & Logging
We continuously monitor our network for anomalies and security events to detect and respond to issues early.
The Role of the Firewall
A firewall is a security gateway that controls what traffic can enter or leave our school network. It acts as a digital gatekeeper, checking against a set of rules to:
- Allow trusted learning services.
- Block known harmful or unsafe content.
- Prevent unauthorized access to internal systems.
- Keep our network stable and protected from threats.
Security Without Oversharing
"For safety reasons, we do not publish sensitive firewall rule details, internal network topology, or specific vendor configurations. This transparency is balanced with operational security."
Policies Crafted for Each Student Level
Instead of a one-size-fits-all rule, aLphabet uses a tiered policy system to balance safety with academic freedom.
KG - Primary(IB PYP)
- Walled-garden approach focused on safety and guided discovery.
- Strictly allows only curated educational platforms and resources.
- SafeSearch is enforced globally to protect our youngest learners.
- Supports early inquiry-based learning in a highly controlled, safe environment.
Middle School(IB MYP)
- Balanced approach to support growing research needs for interdisciplinary projects.
- Broader access to information while blocking overtly harmful and distracting categories.
- Continues to enforce SafeSearch and other automated filtering.
- Prepares students for more independent online work in a structured manner.
High School(IB DP)
- More open access to support advanced research for the Extended Essay and other DP requirements.
- Focus shifts to digital citizenship and responsible use, with fewer restrictions.
- Smart controls on high-bandwidth or non-academic services to preserve network for learning.
- Empowers students with the tools needed for university-level research.
Staff & Guests
- Staff receive broad access necessary for professional and operational duties, with all traffic still monitored.
- Guest network provides internet-only access, fully isolated from internal school systems.
- Security policies for staff focus on protecting sensitive school and student data.
- Ensures visitors can connect without posing a risk to the internal network.
